Do you have an odor in or around your house? Holes going under your deck or shed? You could have skunks living around your home. Skunks are known for their strong odor and they can spray when threatened. Most people are not aware that skunks can carry rabies. In the Sacramento area, most rabies episodes occur with skunks.  If you see a skunk in the daytime or if the skunk looks shaggy, then it is a good sign that the skunk is sick. If you see a skunk with these sign call a professional and do not approach it. Keep your pets away from the animal by keeping it in the house or garage.
